Stock Footage and Motion Graphics File Preparation Guidelines

VideoHive Upload Instructions
This article contains instructions on preparing your file for submission to VideoHive. For help with our upload process —including how to format your submission title, tags and description— view our item upload guide.

  1. Save your main file(s):

Begin by saving a high-resolution version of your footage. Footage must be provided within a Quicktime MOV container, and must use one of the following encoding formats (no other formats are accepted at this time):

    • Photo JPEG
    • PNG + Alpha
    • Apple ProRes 422
    • Apple ProRes 422 HQ
    • H.264

For some tips on organizing your main file, lead reviewer Brian Foote has put together this helpful video

All Stock Footage and non-looping Motion Graphics files need to be a minimum of 10 seconds in duration in order to be accepted. Stock Footage needs to contain 10 usable seconds of footage. If 10 usable seconds cannot be produced for any one clip, we suggest packing together a few similar clips that together will total over 10 seconds in overall length.

  2. Grab any appropriate talent or location releases:

If you have included footage of a distinguishable building or landmark or a human face you will need a signed property or talent release. You should scan in the release in PDF or JPG format.

  3. Zip up your files:

We require your main file and all assets that make up your main file to be contained within a ZIP folder.

Note: Your main file must not exceed 1GB in total size after it's been compressed. We recommend using the FTP Upload process if your file exceeds 500MB.

  4. Create your preview video:

Create a smaller FLV version of your video at either 640x360, 960x540 or 720x480 and overlay the matching VideoHive watermark on your video. This will help prevent copyright breach and unauthorized use of your file.

Note: The watermark should be used exactly as we provide it to you. Do not alter it in any way, shape, form or color.

  5. Final steps:

Check that your preview image, thumbnail, title, description and tags follow our formatting standards. Put your finished design and all supporting information into a single zipped folder.

  6. Upload your files to VideoHive!
